Treasure hunting in Amsterdam

December 20, 2017

One of the big interior trends of 2018 is to stop following trends and to start adding personality to your interior. Don’t you just love the contradiction?!

Sorting through trendy furniture, colors and accessories is a thing of the past. If you want your home decoration to be on point in 2018 you’ll have to do some soul searching. Or, if you’re afraid of what you might find (no judgement), you can just check out some of the many Amsterdam markets and curiosities shops. To make things easy I will share my four favorite places to go treasure hunting. Happy hunting!

Van Dijk & Ko

This gigantic warehouse is filled with imported secondhand furniture, accessories and objects. Van Dijk & Ko is located in Amsterdam Noord. Just take your bike with you on the ferry and feel super Dutch. See something you like? (you probably will) Don’t think your bike is an excuse not to buy it. They have a great delivery service. Tip: they sell and buy new items every day. Follow their Instagram to stay up-to-date.

IJ-Hallen

Did you know that the biggest flea market of Europe is in Amsterdam? (Me neither to be honest) In Amsterdam Noord at the NDSM area, you will find the IJ-Hallen. A perfect excuse to take the ferry once more. Check out the website for the market dates. Dutch people don’t like the rain either so this market is mostly indoors. A day at the IJ-Hallen is truly ‘gezellig’ and fun to visit with the kids. Be prepared for some serious treasure hunting!

De Weldaad

This wonderful store combines home decoration, lifestyle products and vintage items. De Weldaad is so awesome, they had to spread all their awesomeness over two stores. One is located in the 9 Straatjes area and the other one is in the Jordaan area. I suggest visiting both. You won’t regret it. This store knows how to add personality to any interior.

Noordermarkt

Every Monday morning from 09:00 till 13:00 you’ll find the cutest little interior and accessory market on the Noordermarkt. It is filled with items you simply can’t find at the big labels. Start your week with some treasure hunting on the Noordermarkt and continue your market shopping on the Westerstraat. You need groceries anyway so you might just as well make a little adventure of it.
